Colored Au Chocolat

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Someone on SCS posted some great stamping demonstrations by Linda H.  I got some great tips to pass along.  My favorite was - how to get colored Au Chocolat paper by just applying ink.  I tried markers and brayer on these 3 cards.  But then I thought about sponging the saffron ink for the flower center of the last card,  and I liked that application the best of all.

Here I used Pixie Pink, because I had already made these cards with Big Blooms and just added in the matching color with markers.  I think a softer color would work best overall.  Again notice the use of Everyday Flexible Phrases.  If you don’t have this set already - you know you want it!

This card fits a legal sized envelope.  The cardstock is 9 by 8, score at 4.  The colors of ink are almost amethyst and so saffron.  I made the strip wide enough so I could push the word window punch all the way through.   Otherwise, it is very difficult to line up when you need an enlarged window.

Everyday Flexible Phrases

I am trying out a new blog template.  How do you like the new look?   Let me know what you think - You can leave a comment by clicking on the number following the word “comments” on the side of each post.

I made these cards yesterday to show how easy it is to incorporate Everday Flexible Phrases (April Special) into a project.  In both cards, I stamped the word on a punch-out from the Round Tab Punch (Spring Minicatalog).  Both of these cards were so quick and easy using the Petals and Paisleys Designer Paper (Spring Minicatalog) for backgrounds.  Stamp Sets:  Polka Dots and Paisleys, Everyday Flexible Phrases.  Colors:  Cool Caribbean, Tempting Turquoise, Taken With Teal, So Saffron.  Accents:  Turquoise Grosgrain Ribbon, Soft Subtles Brads, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Round Tab Punch.

Coaster Frame with Faux Hinges

This is the fourth project for the April class.  I finally checked it off my “to do” list.  This makes a fun and cheery spring gift.  It would also look pretty done with the Au Chocolate designer papers.  The only problem I had was lining up the faux hinges (made from a cereal box and gold embossing).  Next time I will use the paper piercing mat to be more accurate with the holes for the brads.  Stamp set:  Polka Dots and Paisley. Paper: Petals and Paisleys, So Saffron, Old Olive.  Accents: Turquoise grosgrain and gold cord.

April Stampin’ Class

I will be sending out my April customer newsletter soon, so I want to show 3 of the 4 projects we will be making at my April class:  stippling technique card, diorama card, easy spring office card and photo frame with faux hinges.  There is a tutorial for the diorama card by one of our talented SU demonstrators here .  april-class-projects.jpg

Long Note Mini Album

I sacrificed the last Long Note from my package to make this minialbum.  I needed to display some of the many photos from our spring break cruise to the Western Caribbean and 14 fit in this little album!  The belly band of one inch wide cardstock is similar to the one in my photo wallet (earlier post).   You could also just add ribbon under a front panel to tie the album shut.   I used the Big Blooms stamp set, and Brilliant Blue to coordinate with the Cool Caribbean.  Other sets used were Fresh Fillers and Expressive Flexible Phrases.  Inspired by a post by vicnvin on SCS.

Instructions:  Score both sides of the Long Note at 3  5/16 and fold them towards the center.  Cut 2 pieces at 3 x 6, fold in half and attach to the 2 side folds using the paper piercer and linen thread.   Decorate and add photos.

Never-ending tag card

I thought I would give a few more details about this card, since not everyone had time to make it at the meeting.  I had a difficult time figuring this one out, but if you look at the second photo, it all makes sense.  The slit is made before you fold up the mini envelope.  With a craft knife you cut about 1/2 inch up from the bottom fold of the envelope, and 2 inches across (so the tag will slide in easily).  The slit is cut right through the back of the envelope AND the false front (before you adhere to the card base).  The second tricky part is the guide piece (here it is Sahara Sand) that is necessary so the tag can only go in and out of the slit.  The guide piece here is 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, although any scrap that fits inside the envelope will work.  The bottom of the guide piece goes through the slit in the false front and is adhered to the back of the mini envelope.  Then, when you assemble the envelope, adhere the envelope flaps it to the guide piece, so the tag can only go behind the guide.  The false front is adhered to the card base only on the sides, so the tag can move in and out freely through the slit.  I hope these directions save you some time in making this fun project!
