Etsy Shop

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I finally got around to setting up an Etsy Shop to sell some of my extra cards that I make for classes and for demonstrator samples (and for fun).  Here is the link:  www.craftdoc.etsy.com

And here is another project that was inspired by our Stampin’ Success magazine.  I used a dollar store letter holder and pencil holder and covered with our new Thoroughly Modern Designer Series Paper.  Glue dots and sticky strip did not work  - finally I tried the pop up glue dots and mushed them into the mesh - success!  The card box also has a paper lining - it is our Forget Me Not keeper - very sturdy - you will want several of these for card/photo storage.

Designer Pages - My Digital Studio

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I had fun putting together an 8×8 album so I have a sample to show my customers when MDS is available Oct 1.  I was going to do the Alaska pictures, but those will take forever to sort through.  So I decided to grab some digital photos of David from the computer and make him a book of memories.  Directly from My Digital Studio I was able to output the book as separate pages in pdf format for the blog, as well as have the entire book sent to Stampin’ Up! for printing.  This time I used one of the designer templates, added photos and changed some elements to fit my pictures.  If you click on the thumbnail, you can see a larger view.

My Digital Studio - Where have you been all my life?

This new program is amazing - Stampin’ Up! colors, stamps and accessories all on my computer.  Here are my first few creations.

Showcasing pictures from our vacation to Alaska:  I used a standard layout and just changed the background color, added text and added some silver brad embellishments.

alaska-test-2-002.jpg

And then a test card:  I used a standard template, removed the greeting and added my own text.  And I can make the text any size, font or color!  The top of the card is white, so it doesn’t show up well here.  There is an option to save each page as a jpg file in just the right size for sharing online or printing yourself.  There is also a high quality print service option to print your cards or photo books.

I know I will have lots of fun with this program.  Maybe I can even catch up on my scrapbooking!  My Digital Studio is available at my online store www.kwstamps.stampinup.net  starting Oct 1.

Build A Bear Workshop

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

This is a great birthday card for a child.  It even contains crayons for them to color the bears!  This is from the back cover of our September Stampin’ Success magazine (0ne of the perks of being a demonstrator).  Take a 4″ x 12″ piece of cardstock (here green galore)  score at 5, 10 , 10 1/4, 11 1/2 inches.  The smallest flap is decorated with the Seal of Pawthenticity border and adhered with sticky strip.  The next flap has sticky strip on both sides and becomes the crayon holder.  You could use a regular half sheet of cardstock (4  1/4 by 8 1/2) and just score at 5, 10, 10 1/4 (leaving off the smallest flap).  This is a great time of year to pick up crayons on sale.  And to book your free Build-A-Bear workshop with me (or purchase online at www.kwstamps.stampinup.net).    Remember there is a special promotion for workshops this fall that total $25o (any minicatalog item except MDS for $10), plus My Digital Studio at half price for a $400 workshop!

Sweet Centers Flower

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Here is my last project with this new stamp set. For this one, you have to peel off the backing to get to the candy - I couldn’t use my usual method to make it refillable because of the size.  I used the circle scissor plus to make a 2″ circle to place the Sweet Treat cup and then glue the petals onto.    The skewer goes right through the Old Olive grosgrain ribbon. A bunch of these flowers would make a great centerpiece or party favor!

Refillable Sweet Treats Tutorial

Friday, September 4th, 2009

When I went to play with my new Sweet Centers stamp set ( p. 6 Holiday Minicatalog), there were no treats to be found in my house!  I had to come up with a way to make the treat cards re-usable, so I could fill them at a later time.  An added bonus: the recipient would not have to destroy the card to get at the treats!

1.  Determine the size of your front panel and mat.  Here I used a 1 3/4″ punched out circle to help measure.  My Whisper White panel is 2 1/2″  by 3 1/2″ and my Real Red mat is 2 3/4 by 3 3/4″.  On the cards that I submitted to SU, my panels were the entire length of the card (5 1/2″), which gives you room for a sentiment to be stamped right onto the Whisper White CS. (The piece pictured was trimmed so that the ornament hook went at the top edge).

2.  Stamp your Whisper White Panel.

3.  Adhere your Whisper White stamped piece to the Real Red mat.  Punch out a circle with the 1 3/4″ circle punch.  You can see a bit of your stamped image, so it is easy to line up.

4.   If you wish to place your Sweet Treat Cup near the top or bottom of your card, you can just punch the front of the card with the 1 3/4 inch punch and line up your mat with it.  However, in this case I wanted my circle to be more in the center of the card, so I used the Big Shot Movers and Shapers die and Holiday Windows (p. 7 of Holiday Minicatalog).  I placed my mat right over the die to get it into the right place, then removed the mat before I ran my card through the Big Shot.

5.  Still not adhering my mat, I used it to determine where to stamp my greeting (Four the Holidays, p. 19) on the card.  Any stamping on the card should be done at this point, before it gets lumpy:)

6.  Remove the adhesive tape and adhere your Sweet Treat Cup to the FRONT of the card.  It is easy to center if you look at it from the inside.

sweet-centers-tutorial-007-copy.jpg

7.  Adhere your mat over top of the Sweet Treat Cup and add some ribbon if desired.  Your front is done.  Now to make the card RE-USABLE and RE-FILLABLE.

sweet-centers-tutorial-008-copy.jpg

8.  You will be making an inside pocket with the same color CS that covers half of the treat cup.  If your cup is near the top or the bottom, a 4 1/4 by 4 1/4″ square is the right size (it may need to be trimmed slightly).   In this case, since my cup was more towards the center, my pocket ended up as 4 1/4 by 3″.   I could have placed the pocket at either side of the card, but I choose to cover the ribbon to make it more secure.  The important thing here is to only place your adhesive at the 3 edges - remember, you are making a pocket.   I found that covering half the cup gave the best security, yet still allows for easy filling.   Then add your treats!

sweet-centers-tutorial-009.jpg

9.  Cut a 4 3/4 x 2 1/2″ piece of a contrasting color CS (Real Red here)  to insert into the pocket.  This should be our heavy SU cardstock, so that the treats don’t escape:)    The tab is not adhered at all - it should be completely removeable.  Here is the inside of the finished card:

Here is the outside of the finished card:

It seems like a lot of steps, but these cards really are quick once you try one. And the extra pocket and tab are worth the effort so that your hard work is not destroyed in minutes:)
