I have had a little more time to play with the Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers since my previous post when they first arrived.  I’m getting better as I learn from experience and from other demonstrators.

Here are a few more samples and tips.

-For best results, use Memento Black ink and Whisper White Cardstock.  I had to add some ink refill to refresh my inkpad as it was getting a bit faded.

-They come in pairs of light/dark – great for Blending.  But they also blend well with other colors.  For example the Pool Party plus Bermuda Bay.  Or Calypso Coral plus Cherry Cobbler.

-The lighter colors such as Pool Party and Crumb Cake are great for adding sky and ground.

-The darker colors such as Night of Navy and Cherry Cobbler are great for accents.  Be sure to stop short of the black lines with these colors so you don’t overwhelm the outlines or spread the color outside the lines.  The Color Lifter can push back the color.  Hold the bullet tip over the mistake until it pushes into the back of the paper.

-For large areas – flick color on with the brush tip in one direction starting with the lighter and adding dark where there are shading lines or where there might be shadows.  Then go back to the lighter shade and use the bullet tip in circular motions for blending. (IMPORTANT -If you use the brush tips for blending, you risk fraying the tips – the brushes should be flicked in one direction- not back and forth).    If too light, go back and add more of the darker color.  If too dark, the Color Lifter will push away the color.  Unlike water based markers which leave streaks and damage the paper if overworked, the alcohol markers give you more options.  They do bleed through when used properly, so be sure you have paper protecting your work surface.

-The Smoky Slate light marker is great to add a shadow on the outside of your image on one side.  Soften it with the Color Lifter for subtle dimension.

-You can see that many Stampin’ Up! stamp sets work well with the new Stampin’ Blends.  And they will look great mounted on the matching cardstock – my favorite part of crafting with coordinating Stampin’ Up!  products.
