Class Time

Friday, May 15th, 2009

The Bleached Clock Card will probably be another class project.  All three of these cards have some things in common.

1.  They all use our In Colors.

2.  They all use Textured Cardstock (on sale this month).

3.  They are all 3″ by 6″ cards.  I like this size when using 12 x 12 paper.  You can get 4 cards from a sheet and they fit a standard letter sized envelope.  Besides which, its nice to vary the size on occasion!

4.  They were all inspired by recent Stampin’ Success Magazines (the monthly Stampin’ Up! demonstrator magazine).

5.  All 3 cards used products from the Occasions minicatalog (Sense of Time, Summer Soft, Window Sheets).  I will miss those sets at the end of June, but we can look forward to a brand new big catalog for July 1.

Just a note - the Tangerine Tango card uses no stamps - just rub-ons.  The window sheet is raised on dimensionals. The Bright Delights Rub-ons were used on the window sheet, the white panel under the window sheet and the sentiment on the bottom of the card.  All products can be purchased at www.kwstamps.stampinup.net

Happy Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

This elegant Mother’s Day Card was so easy to make.  Wonderful Watercolors is the name of the stamp set and Parisian Breeze is the name of the Designer Series Paper.  I just tore off the bottom edge of the paper and flipped it to the other side and tied with our tafetta ribbon.  Remember, all Designer paper is buy 3, get one free for the month of May.  This one is my favorite, so I will be stocking up!  Contact me or order at www.kwstamps.stampinup.net

This was also my swap card for our last demonstrator meeting.

Sense of Time

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

This set is great for scrapbooking and those masculine cards that everyone needs.  The first photo  features the small grommets, also in the occasions minicatalog.  I actually copied this layout from an old father’s day card that I had made using a similarly sized vintage stamp and sentiment.

This next project is a mini-album using the same stamp set.  This album is made out of 3 flattened toilet paper tubes!  The tubes are wrapped in Urban Oasis DSP, with pull out panels for your photos.  As demonstrators, we have access to many creative projects made by SU staff and also those submitted by SU demos for frequent contests as this one was.  (Prizes are free stamp sets.)  So if you are not creative, but like to copy, becoming a demo this month for only $75 is a great deal.  And if you ARE creative, ditto!  Contact me for details or visit www.kwstamps.stampinup.net

The clock image was stamped in bleach on Basic Gray Cardstock.  The book is bound by punching with the Crop a dile and adding jumbo eyelets and book rings.

Graduation Congrats

Congratulations to all our graduates!  This card was our make and take from the last Erie Area Demonstator Meeting and was provided by Cheryl.  This is a great time to become a demonstrator and enjoy our fun group.  There is a special kit for just $75 that is the lowest priced one ever offered in my 10 years of demoing.  You can start a home business, pay for your hobby, or just enjoy the discount and other demonstrator perks.  Contact me for more information.

Stampin’ Success Magazine

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Stampin’ Success Magazine is the name of the monthly demonstrator magazine that we receive in the mail.  I was happy to pull out the free set that I got at convention (Good Friends) to copy these 2 cards from the magazine.  I did add one of the new black grommets to the flower center with some Tombow glue and red glitter.  I also changed out the greeting on the 2nd card and used the Very Versatile set from the mini.  Details about becoming a demonstrator and/or purchasing products are at www.kwstamps.stampinup.net

Matchbox die tutorial

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Here is a quick look at how to assemble the matchbox from the new die in the Occasions minicatalog.  Again, I love this box (and the box die #2) because you only need one piece of adhesive for the whole box!

1.  Place separate pieces of cardstock or other paper over the bottom and top of the box when you use the die.  In this case I used Baja Breeze for the bottom and Window Sheet (Occasions minicatalog) for the sleeve.

2.   Using the bone folder, fold on all the creases.  The tiny little creases on the ends you will fold in the opposite direction - AND only fold these at a 90 degree angle - you want them to stick out because this is what holds the box together without adhesive.

3.  Fold the long sides in first.  Then fold in the ends.  Those tiny flaps should hold the other sides in.  See photo.

4. Fold your sleeve around the box and adhere the flaps together.  I used 2 glue dots here.  I found that the window sheets didn’t score well for me.  I had to go over them well with my bone folder.  Now that the Extended Crease Pad is available, I wonder if that will help.  I fit in 3 Treasures, but you can also use 4 Nuggets.  I have some other ideas of fillers for these boxes which I will share in future posts.

The tag is made from the oval scallop punch and the Oval All stamp set.  The Baja Breeze backing is part of the matchbox die - it comes with 3 tags!

Butterfly Card

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

This card features the Soft Summer stamp set from the Occasions minicatalog ( the flower and sentiment).  Colors are Not Quite Navy and Bashful Blue.  It’s hard to see,  but the flower is stamped tone on tone at the bottom right corner.   I used the Big Shot Butterfly die on Taste of Textiles Vellum dotted DSP and added a bit of Bashful Blue ribbon.  The circle was cut with the Circle Scissor Plus.  Don’t have the butterfly die?  Try cutting out the butterfly from the Great Friend set.

113802 Soft Summer $23.95

113792 Great Friend $17.95

Total = 41.90 - and you get a free item from p. 208 in April!  See April 2nd post for details.

Easter Side-Step Card

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

This card has been a big hit around Erie ever since I showed it at our last demonstrator meeting.  So I decided to give you a step by step tutorial.  I adapted the measurements to fit a medium sized (invitation) envelope so it is easy to mail.  You can use either your personal trimmer or Scor-pal to make this card.

side-step-card-007-copy.jpg

side-step-card-001.jpg

1.  Cut a half sheet of Certainly Celery CS (5 1/2 x 8 1/2).  Place vertically in your personal trimmer at 2 inches.  Cut a slit from 2 1/8″ to 7 1/2″.

side-step-card-002.jpg

2. Use your scoring blade or Scor-Pal, place the CS horizontally with slit down.

From the top to the slit, score at 2 1/8″ (this will be the dot on your Scor-pal).

Score the entire card at 4 1/4 ”

side-step-card-003.jpg

3.  Score from the top to the slit at 5 3/8.  If using the Scor-Pal, move the left edge to 1″ and score at the 6 3/8″ dot, then move the CS back to the edge for the next 2 scores.

Score from the top edge to the slit at 6 1/2″ and 7 1/2 “.

Red line = cut, Black line= Score.

side-step-card-005.jpg

4.  Accordian fold the card as shown.  The 4 1/4″ score will be mountain folded at the narrow part, and valley folded at the wide part.

side-step-card-006-copy.jpg

5.  Stamp chick from A Good Egg stamp set onto card and also twice onto a scrap piece of white CS.  Stamp Happy Easter sentiment.  At this point, you can run the card through your Big Shot with a Texturz plate if you want to add some dry embossing.

6.  Trim around the white eggshell and adhere to the chick.  Trim around the top of the white chick to tuck among the eggs.  Use your So Saffron Marker to color the chick’s beak.  The eggs are punched with the Wide Oval Punch and the FREE Delicate Dots Designer Paper (only available until March 31).  Add a piece of ribbon (also FREE until March 31) and you are done!

St. Patrick’s Day soon

Friday, March 6th, 2009

I was trying to come up with a St. Patrick’s Day card using free products from Sale-A-Bration.  How did I do?  I used Polka Dot Punches and Delicate Dots DSP.  I also used By Definition which is the most expensive stamp set in the catalog.  SAB is the best time to get this set and get your free SAB selection!
